Wool Carpet Cleaning Guide
A wool carpet or rug is always known to be a beneficial investment and certainly makes your home more appealing. Wool carpets are normally made of natural fibers; therefore, they need additional care and special techniques when it comes to cleaning and maintaining them. Here are some general tips to clean your wool carpet and maintain it in optimum condition:
In case of spillage, remove the spill as much as possible immediately. For liquids, use white tissues or paper towels to blot the area; for solids, use a spoon or blunt knife. If the spill is larger, use dry or wet vacuum. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing the wool carpet while removing the stain or rinsing.
Start dabbing or blotting from the outer circumference of the stain towards the center in order to prevent it from spreading further.
No matter what cleaning treatment you use, pre-test on a small unnoticeable area of the wool carpet to make sure that it doesn’t change color or get damaged.
If you notice excess moisture, be sure to press dry the carpet with white paper towel or a clean white cloth during any step of the cleaning process. Even during this step, do not rub or scrub the carpet as it can change the texture of the carpet.
After you treat the stain or spill, place several white paper towels on the surface and hold them in place using a flat weight. If you do not have enough time, use a hairdryer to quicken the drying process, but be careful to not overheat the surface. Also, avoid walking on the carpet until it is completely dry.
If the stains remain even after the treatment, the only best solution is to have a professional carpet cleaner attend to it immediately. Do not try to use aggressive cleaning methods by yourself because you could cause more damage to your beautiful wool carpet.
You should be able to differentiate soiling from stains in order to make sure that you follow the right cleaning technique for your wool carpet or rug. For instance, coffee, soft drinks, and other sugar based products leave behind a sugar residue. Another aspect to keep in mind is that if you use detergent for cleaning the stains but fail to thoroughly rinse the area with plain water, you will be leaving behind a sticky residue of the detergent on your carpet. And this residue easily attracts soil from constant foot traffic on your wool carpet, and the surface will get discolored. Therefore, it is vital to make sure that you leave no residues behind after the cleaning process.
As most stains on wool carpets at home are caused by everyday food and beverages, you can easily treat them by applying warm water to the stained area. Prepare a cleaning mixture with one teaspoon of wool detergent (recommended by your wool carpet manufacturer), one teaspoon of white vinegar, and 1 liter of water, and use this solution to treat the stain. Rinse the area with warm water and repeat the treatment until necessary.

Eliminate Stains from Your Carpet

Just like the clothes you wear require washing on a regular basis in order to remain hygienic, fresh, and pleasant smelling at all times, the carpets in your home also require regular and proper cleaning. In addition to accumulated dust particles, soil, and grit, one other important factor that plays a major role in reducing the life of your carpets is stains. Stains also act as the living ground for harmful disease causing bacteria, which could further lead to a lot of unexpected issues in your family, especially if you have kids at home.

When carpets get stained and dirty, many homeowners immediately think about replacing them with a new one. This is because most individuals think that having their carpets cleaned professionally would cost them more than buying new ones. If you belong to this particular category of homeowners, it is about time you knew that regular carpet cleaning costs are actually minimal when compared to the costs associated with replacing them.

As we always say, vacuuming is not enough to remove stains from your carpet. Steaming your carpet on your own will do no good either. Believe it or not, professional cleaning is the only best and legal way to eliminate stains from and protect your carpet.

When it comes to eliminating stains from your carpet, it is important that you start the job when the stain is fresh. Before you call in a professional, it would be wise to try and remove the stain on your own by following some simple home remedies. If you are new to the task, here are some basic instructions you should follow:

Start the process by soaking up the stain. You can use newspapers or paper towels to soak up a stain while it is still fresh. During this stage, avoid rubbing or scrubbing the carpet to remove the fresh stain because this can actually make the stain even worse by making it soak deep inside and can also damage your carpet’s fibers. Therefore, rather than scrubbing, place the newspapers or paper towels on the stained spot and stand on them so the paper soaks up the stain as much as possible. Remove the paper and use a new batch to repeat the process if necessary.

In the case of stains caused by oils like fats, butter, etc. or other food items, you will need cleaning solvents to get rid of the stains. Cleaning solvents can be found at your local grocery or hardware stores. If the stains are tougher, like those caused by coffee spillage or blood stains, you will have to make a solution with water (1 cup) and ammonia (1 tablespoon) to clean them. For milder stains, you can simply use an equal mix of water and vinegar.

One of the most important things to remember when trying to eliminate stains from your carpet is to never use heat on the stained area. This will dry the stain and sometimes can even make it permanent. And as mentioned earlier, avoid rubbing the stained area to prevent damages. If the stains still remain, seek professional help.

Carpet Wiser Earns Esteemed 2016 Angie’s List Super Service Award

Award reflects company’s consistently high level of customer service

Carpet Wiser has earned the home service industry’s coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award, reflecting an exemplary year of customer service to members of the local services marketplace and consumer review site in 2016.

This achievement is particularly significant as Angie’s List experienced unprecedented member growth in 2016. More than 1.6 million consumers, many of whom were eager to quickly hire highly qualified service pros, joined Angie’s List after the company added a new, free membership tier.

“Companies that can meet higher demands without missing a beat in their exemplary performance standards truly do stand apart from their peers,” said Angie’s List Founder Angie Hicks. “Only a fraction of the carpet cleaning companies in Elgin, IL were able to do it.”

Angie’s List Super Service Award 2016 winners have met strict eligibility requirements, which include an “A” rating in overall grade, recent grade, and review period grade. The SSA winners must also be in good standing with Angie’s List, pass a background check and abide by Angie’s List operational guidelines.

“We Make Carpet Cleaning Wiser”

Service company ratings are updated daily on Angie’s List as new, verified consumer reviews are submitted. Companies are graded on an A through F scale in areas ranging from price to professionalism to punctuality.

For more than 21 years, Angie’s List restricted access to its verified reviews to consumers who paid membership fees. When the company removed that barrier, some companies worried that the new, non-paying members would not be as engaged as members of the past. Experience has shown, however, that these newly added members are just as engaged – across all age groups – as prior members. Also, because the company continues to adhere to its review verification process, there has been no degradation of review quality.

“The biggest change at Angie’s List is that we are connecting even more consumers to high quality service professionals,” Hicks said. “And that’s good for everyone.”

Angie’s List helps facilitate happy transactions between more than 4.5 million consumers nationwide and its collection of highly rated service providers in more than 720 categories of service, ranging from home improvement to health care. Built on a foundation of more than 10 million verified reviews of local service, Angie’s List connects consumers directly to its online marketplace of services from member-reviewed providers, and offers unique tools and support designed to improve the local service experience for both consumers and service professionals.

Carpet Cleaning and Indoor Air Quality

Without a doubt, people spend most of their time indoors. Therefore, the quality of air indoor is of extreme importance in every home. However, indoor air quality is often one of the most ignored aspects among most homeowners, which eventually leads to a lot of issues. Basically, there are several factors that determine the quality of air inside your home, some of which include the commonly used products such as furnishings, building materials, cleaning materials, paint, etc. Among these products, carpets are considered to be a major cause of indoor air pollution.

Being used in houses for several decades, carpets happen to be one of the most loved, used, and preserved home furnishing products. Most homeowners prefer using or decorating their home with carpets mainly because of its sheer beauty and its ability to enhance the look of an otherwise normal-looking interior. Carpets come in different materials, and no matter what material you choose, dust, dirt, dust mites, pet dander, and many such organisms are bound to settle in your carpet. Hence, it is important to keep your carpets clean at all times in order to avoid serious health issues down the line, especially when you have kids and older adults at home.

Many government organizations have revealed that carpets are a common source of VOCs, Volatile Organic Compounds – a group of chemicals that can cause several health-related complications. These compounds can easily get released and mix with the indoor air, causing problems like throat irritation, headache, nausea, allergies on the skin, fatigue, and more. In order to remain safe, give your carpets a day or two to air out once they are installed and don’t move in immediately. Make sure there is enough ventilation in your home during this time so the VOCs can evaporate.

Once the carpets are in place and you have moved in, the next job is to clean them regularly. Always remember that even the smallest carpeting space can be home to a lot of dirt, dust, and allergens. Therefore, make it a habit to vacuum all your carpets or carpeting at least once a week. During the days when you have a family gathering or party at home or if there is always lot of foot traffic in your home, especially with pets and kids, vacuum the carpets after the party or twice a week. For better results, call in for professional carpet cleaning in regular intervals.

If you have family members with allergies and/or asthma, regular professional carpet cleaning is a must for your home. This is because the allergens deposited in your carpets can affect them adversely, especially kids with those problems, as they tend to be the ones constantly playing and moving around on the carpeting. Talk to a reliable carpet cleaning company in your neighborhood and come up with a regular cleaning schedule with them, so their professional cleaners will visit your home every now and then to thoroughly clean your carpets and keep them fresh and clean, and most importantly, prevent such health issues from worsening.
